Bay Area Christian Athletic League
Sportsmanship Policy Statement

All Bay Area Christian Athletic League (BACAL) events are considered to be extensions of our educational institutions. The conduct in word and deed of student-athlets, coaches and game management staff is expected to speak of a commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ and the example of godliness He established.

BACAL, as a member of the Association of Christian Schools International, encourages the following sportsmanship rules as developed by BACAL and the National Federation of State High School Associations. All participants, including coaches, student-athletes, officials, umpires and spectators of BACAL-sponsored activities are expected to follow the rules listed below.

1. Show respect and courtesy for all players, coaches, officials and spectators.

2. Refrain from the following behaviors:

a. berating an opponent's school and/or mascot;

b. berating opposing players;

c. obscene cheers and/or gestures;

d. no visible tatoos during competition;

e. negative signs (run-throughs and banners are approved;

f. noise makers;

g. complaining about officials calls (verbal or gestures); and,

h. throwing objects (no matter how small).

It is the responsibility of school administrations to have at each BACAL sponsored athletic contest, a site administrator identified to the coaching staff of both participating schools and to the lead official.

It is the responsibility of the of site administrators to enforce these rules. Persons unable to conduct themselves in a sportmanlike manner will be asked to leave by site administrators. If the situation merits, local law enforcement officers will be summoned.

It is the responsibility of athletic directors to ensure that their coaches are well versed and act in accordance with the BACAL established sportsmanship standards.

It is the responsibility of coaches to lead by example in their speech and conduct as it relates to student-athletes, coaches, game management staff, officials and site administrators.
